Tony’s Seafood: A Family Tradition Since 1959

How Tony’s Seafood Got Its Start

Back in 1959, my father, Tony Pizzolato, opened a small produce business right here in Baton Rouge. He wanted to bring fresh fruits and vegetables to the community. But something unexpected happened—when he added crawfish, shrimp, and crabs to the mix, people couldn’t get enough. Before long, seafood was outselling produce, and Tony’s Seafood was born.

Louisiana's Largest Seafood Market

Looking for live crawfish, shrimp, or fresh fish? You’ll find it here. If you’re in the mood for something ready to eat, the deli serves up hot seafood plates, making it easy to grab a meal on the go.

Building Something Bigger

Building Something Bigger

In 1972, my father took a leap of faith and leased an old service station on Plank Road. It wasn’t much at first, but with hard work and a promise to sell only the best seafood, our family turned it into something special. My mom, Mary Lee, and all of us kids—Bill, Joey, Mike, Cliff, Tad, and Ceily—worked side by side to keep the business running. By the 1980s, long lines of customers waiting for fresh seafood became an everyday sight, especially during crawfish season.

Why People Keep Coming Back

Tony’s Seafood isn’t just a market—it’s a part of Baton Rouge’s culture. We still sell the freshest live and boiled seafood in town, and our deli serves hot plates that have become local favorites. Our family’s Cajun recipes inspired Louisiana Fish Fry Products, so now people can bring the flavors of Tony’s into their own kitchens. Today, with over 200 employees, we continue the same commitment to quality that my father started all those years ago.
